KARINA RETTIG, FELLOW

Born in South Los Angeles, Karina was the first in her family to graduate college. She attended Los Angeles Harbor College where she earned two Associate Degrees and will be transferring to California State University Dominguez Hills in the Fall of 2021 to further her education. Working on political campaigns to help pay for school, she learned and has made it her mission to advocate for social justice and equity. Since seeing her United States Senator become elected Vice President, she knows that with hard work, determination and ambition, the sky is the limit.

Karina on her Shero: Before she was Madam Vice President, she was my Attorney General and then Senator. Kamala Harris inspires myself and generations of women to chase your goals no matter if others tell you it isn’t your time. From seeing her fight for our country’s democracy to fighting for issues such as immigration reform, healthcare expansion and reproductive rights, I am very proud to consider her not only a role model, but my Shero.
